About Midsouth Seniors Golf Association

The Midsouth Seniors Golf Association (MSGA) is a non-profit golf association dedicated to the promotion of friendly competition and good fellowship among senior golfers who reside in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

The association began in the 1950’s with the first tournament being held in Greenwood, Mississippi. It has continued to be an active association since then and today has a membership of about 200, with members representing ten states.

The Association has seven tournaments a year with five being “in state” tournaments held primarily in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Out of state tournaments are held twice a year. Some local venues that we attend each year are: Craft Farms in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Diamondhead Country Club, Diamondhead, Mississippi. We have had countless other tournaments in McComb, Greenville, Greenwood, Meridian, Jackson and Natchez, Mississippi, also Lake Charles, Shreveport, St. Francesville and Mandeville, Louisiana. One out of state tournament is held in the Smoky mountain area in August. Other venues have included San Antonio, Texas, Rockport, Massachusetts, Tubac, Arkansas, Palm Springs, California, Naples and Miami Florida, and Puerto Rico.

The 4-day in-state tournaments start on Tuesday with a couples scramble. Wednesday the men play a practice round/merchandise tournament and the ladies play a one-day tournament. Non-golfing wives have bridge, sequence and a luncheon and/or go sightseeing during the week. Tuesday night is a social gathering, frequently at a member’s home. Thursday is the first day of the men’s tournament and the ladies may opt to play in a scramble. Cocktails and dinner occur on Wednesday and Thursday nights with a jacket required for the men. Friday is the final day of the men’s tournament with a luncheon for the ladies. Participation is flexible with some couples attending only Thursday and Friday and wives selecting only one or two days of golf. A more compact 3- day format is also part of the schedule. The 3- day tournament combines the couples tournament and the men’s merchandise tournament on the first day.

The out-of-state tournaments vary according to the resort but follow a similar format. Cocktails and dinners are usually included. This varies on the venue selected and the host resort policies.

MSGA follows USGA rules with some modifications to speed play and keep the game interesting for seniors of all levels of play.
